I speak with many people who are looking for help finding a job, changing careers, or wondering what is next for them. I often recommend that they meet with a career coach. However, there might be some confusion: What is the difference between a career coach and a recruiter?
Let's break it down:
👉 Recruiter: External recruiters (like us at Junction Collective) are hired by companies to help them find the perfect people to fill their open positions. Yes, we will find you! We use our networks, industry knowledge, and sourcing techniques to find the right people for our clients' open positions. We interview, assess skills and experience, and facilitate the hiring process, making sure it’s seamless for both the candidate and our client.
👉 Career Coach: Will help you see the big picture and figure out what you’re good at and what you want to do next. This includes personalized guidance, identifying your unique strengths, setting career goals, and developing tailored strategies to achieve them. A career coach acts as a sounding board, offering support, encouragement, and accountability as you navigate your career path.
👉 Bonus shout out to all the Job Search Coaches out there! These folks are the tactical support you need with the focus, advice, hands on work (eg. resume writing, interview prep and more) and targeted approach to help with immediate tasks and strategies in landing a specific job.
TL;DR
👍 Recruiters are hired by companies and will connect you with open positions that fit your skills.
👍 Career coaches help you see the big picture and navigate your career journey.
👍 Job search coaches provide hands-on support with specific job search tasks and strategies.
Need help figuring out which one is right for you? Feel free to reach out! I'm always happy to offer guidance and advice.
